About Wombat Wines:
Warick Gerrard has had a long association with the Margaret River region surfing there for over 40 years. Encouraged by his three surfing sons he purchased a farm in 1990 as a weekender.

The 60 hectare (150 acres) property in central Willyabrup is known as “Wombat Lodge” and is now Warick’s home and the home of Wombat Lodge Wines.

The vineyard was established in 1997 and continues to be managed by Danny Edwards.

We have a without budget policy to produce the best fruit possible. Yields are deliberately minimised to enhance and maximise flavour. The vineyard is essentially organic.

The original planting in 1997 was 2.75 hectares (7 acres) comprising of 3 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, 1 acre of Merlot and 3 acres of Semillon. The white grapes are sold to a local winery.

In 2004 we planted an additional 3 acres of Red Bordeaux varieties (Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) in our quest for optimum quality of “Wombat Lodge”.

The Cabernet Sauvignon vines comprise a mixture of 3 separate clones that have been grown from cuttings originally sourced from three notable Margaret River vineyards each different and chosen for their individual complexity and flavour. These are carefully blended with our Four Bordeaux varieties

So in summary we make a wine blended from Only the best red grapes are individually selected from our Vineyard and hand picked to Produce 500 cases of "Wombat Lodge" wine.
